Pull On Crushed Velvet Dress: simplicity 9011

IMG_4698.jpg

Happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great first week of February! I am super excited because this is going to be a fun and exciting month! I have my first in-person sewing class at the end of the month, so I’m really looking forward to meeting and having a great time with everyone! It’s also the month of LOVE!! *insert hearts* lol. So yeah, lots of good things but first let’s chat about this dress that I loved the idea of but not really feeling it anymore! Yeah, I know, let’s get into the details.

Pattern Used: For this dress I used Simplicity 9011 and I made View A.

Pattern Description: Pull-on, slim dresses in two lengths with grown-on sleeves. Choose between a straight, gathered or cuffed sleeve. Designed and sized for stretch-knit fabrics. Easy to sew, can be constructed using an overlocker/serger. *description from Simplicity website

Pattern Sewing Level: This pattern sewing level is Easy!

What size did you cut?: For size, I cut the 18 for the bust, 20 for the waist, and 22 for the hips.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very! If you have sewing experience, this is a dress you can sew without the instructions. If you’re new to sewing, this dress has three pattern pieces and the instructions and illustrations are well written.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I loved how easy it was to sew, and the fabric I used. I Although it was easy, the fabric really dressed it up! What I don’t like anymore after wearing it and photographing it is the shape on me. The dress has the “batwing” detail and I felt like I was just wearing a big, shapeless dress. I don’t like my clothes tight, but they gotta fit and I HAVE to feel great in it! Don’t really feel that way wearing this! Sure I can go back in and make some adjustments to it, peg the hem, but I don’t love it enough to do that LOL!

Did you make any pattern alterations: I made no alterations to the pattern!

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I bought my fabric from my local Hobby Lobby! I couldn’t find my exact one but here are other options on their site.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No, I didn’t record this one for a sew along.

Would you sew it again? No, I won’t revisit this pattern. Just didn’t feel like the shape worked for me.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes! This is an easy dress to sew, you can pick velvet to dress it up or an solid knit for a more casual look. The style didn’t work for me but maybe it will for you!

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! Be sure to stay tuned for more projects, subscribe to my Youtube channel, and sign up for my FREE Sewing Scoop newsletter for more sewing! Until next time,
