Plaid Wool Coat: simplicity 8451

Happy Thursday! I hope you all are having a great week! I have been super busy catching up on all my projects before January ends! A lot of people feel like January is moving slow, but it’s flying by for me! LOL! I’m definitely playing catch up, but I’m happy everything is coming together! Like this post! Geesshhh, Brittany how long does it take to get pics of this jacket and share it? LOL! If you follow me on social, you know I’ve have this done for A WHILE! Honestly, it just got pushed back between other projects and…..life! But today I get to share all about it! Let’s get into the details….

Pattern Used: For this coat, I used Simplicity 8451 View B.

Pattern Description: Dress has French darts with large front pockets and scoop back neckline. Coat has an oversized collar, double breasted closure and welt flap pockets. *description from Simplicity website

Pattern Sewing Level: I’d say this is a great intermediate/advanced project. However, if you are comfortable with the details of this jacket like welt flap packets, linings, shoulder pads, you can definitely make this beautiful coat!

What size did you cut?: I cut the 18 for this jacket. The 16 would’ve fit great as well, but I wanted to make sure I could pair sweaters underneath it and still have a good fit. The 18 was the right size for me.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! I went through the entire pattern with no issues. The instructions and illustrations are great!

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I love everything about it! From the welts, to the back shield, it’s double breasted, the fabric I used….everything! I have no dislikes about it!

Did you make any pattern alterations: I didn’t make any pattern alterations or adjustments. I did omit the tabs along the sleeve.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I purchased my fabric from Fashion Fabrics Club. I bought it around Black Friday last year, so it’s sold out but they have some really great wool/wool blends that would be great for this coat! The lining is from Shannon Fabrics.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? I did not BUT this is a Mimi G Style pattern so it’s already a sew along available on her Youtube channel. Just search the pattern and you should be able to find it!

Would you sew it again? Ummm, maybe! I love my coat, but I don’t want two/three of the same coats in my closet! But if I realllyyy wanted another one…YES!

Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely! It’s a great coat pattern!

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! In case you didn’t notice, let me bring it to your attention that I had a photographer for these pics! YAYYYYY! I met up with Tanasha of @prettytallstyle one morning and she got these shots of my coat! It was really fun having someone take pics for me. I was super nervous because as you know, I’ve been doing it myself since I started blogging with my tripod and clicker. But I loosened up, started chatting and laughing and I love the shots she got!!!

Also, we are LESS than a month away for my first in-person hands on sewing class! I am so excited about it! We have some amazing sponsors like Husqvarna Viking, Simplicity, Therm O Web, and Joann on board!!!!! We’re gonna have giveaways, machine demos, sewing, and so much more fun on February 22, 2020 at Simply Sewing Center! You can read more here and secure your spot!

Again, thank you for stopping by! Until next time…

Blessings,
