Front Tie Floral Dress: mccall’s 8084

IMG_6839.jpg

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well! Today we are going to be talking all about my version of McCalls 8084! When I saw the pattern for the first time, I thought it was so cute! I really liked the different variations for the sleeves and length. I’d been holding on to this floral Rayon from LaFinch Fabrics for a couple months and thought it would be great for the dress! Let’s get into more details!

the details

Pattern Used: I used McCalls 8084 and made View C on the pattern.

Pattern Description: Semi-fitted dress, tie front bodice, dolman sleeves, A: ruffle, B: elastic cuff. Elastic waist, length variations, B: hemline ruffle. *description from McCalls website

Pattern Sewing Level: This pattern is rated easy! If you can attach a facing stitching around curves, insert elastic and do a narrow hem, you can make this pattern.

What size did you cut?: I cut the L for the bust and waist, and merged over to the XL for the hips.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were! I didn’t have any issues or come across anything wrong in with instructions or illustrations.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I really like the front tie detail of the dress. I didn’t like the excess fullness under the bust. That’s on me though, because I could’ve eliminated some of that, but because I like oversized garments, I didn’t think to make an adjustment to it.

Did you make any pattern alterations: I did not, but if I make it again, I will. Erica Bunker has a great post of the modifications she made to the bodice and I would definitely do the same if I make it again. Also I was asked about the front opening, was it too low or revealing. I found the placement to be good, I didn’t add any closures, and felt comfortable in it, like I won’t expose myself!

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I purchased my fabric from LaFinch Fabrics. I snagged this up on one of their “End Of Bolt” sales! The fabric is a Rayon. You can search their site here for other Rayon options.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No, I did not record a sew along for this pattern.

Would you sew it again? Yes I would make this dress again! It’s really cute for spring and summer!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! Until next time….

Blessings,
