Olive Abstract Knit Jumpsuit: mccalls 8047

Hey everybody! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! I spent my weekend like I usually do, relaxing with the family and doing some sewing! I was able to finish a shirtdress (just needs buttons) over the weekend so I’ll be sharing that soon! Today I am sharing a jumpsuit I finished up last week! I love the way it came together but let’s get into my review because as easy as it was, I had to do a few things over!!!!!

Pattern Used: I used the new Pre-Spring McCalls 8047 pattern. I made Bodice 1 and Pants 6 from the pattern.

Pattern Description: Strapless, off shoulder, wrap front and back bodices. Full leg shorts, pants and elastic cuff pant leg. *description from McCalls website.

Pattern Sewing Level: This pattern is rated at Average. If you’re comfortable with working with knits, and inserting elastic you can sew this pattern.

What size did you cut?: I cut the size 18 for the bust, 20 for the waist and merged to the 24 for the hips. If you’ll like to see how I do this, I have a YouTube video on how I merge pattern lines for a jumpsuit.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were easy to sew and follow along to.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I originally wanted to go with Bodice 3 and Pants 5. Bodice 3 did not turn out that great. It has elastic in the seam allowance of the fabric and lining along the neckline, so for me it didn’t lay flat/smooth around the neckline like I would’ve hoped. Luckily I had enough fabric for Bodice 1. Bodice 1 was better but the bodice pieces are not connected except at the waist. They cross over, but they’re not sewn together. And I get why…..you gotta pull it over your body. But because of that the bodice pieces are either low in the front/back or sliding off the shoulders. SO you know what that means…..you either will need to sew on a couple snaps, or good ole safety pins!

Did you make any pattern alterations: I made no adjustments other than for the size. I did originally cut my pants for 5 with the elastic casing but after going with Bodice 1, I felt Pants 6 were better. So my length is a little shorter than the full length for 6.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I purchased my fabric from my local Joann. I shared about it and this pattern in my latest haul video. Here’s the link to the fabric here.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No, I did not make a video for this jumpsuit.

Click here for more pics of the bodice.

Would you sew it again? Hmmm, I would use the bottom again! I didn’t haven’t to make any adjustments to the crotch which I love. It fit great. So I would use the bottom again but not the bodice options.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, I would. Just because I had some hiccups with the bodice, it all worked out and I really love my jumpsuit!

Thank you all so much for stopping by the my blog today! I hope you enjoyed reading my review of McCalls 8047 #ediemccalls! Until next time…

Blessings,
