Red Sequin Wrap Dress: mccalls 8021
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I am so excited for 2020 y’all!! New year, new beginnings, and new goals! I’m so grateful to God for an amazing 2019 and I’m looking forward to all the new year will bring! First thing it’s bringing is a new blog post for this McCalls 8021 sequin dress! I loved this pattern when it was first released because I’m a huge fan of wrap dresses so this was a fun sew for me! Let’s get right into the details of it!
Pattern Used: For this sequin dress I used this McCalls 8021 pattern. I cut View C from the pattern and the tie belt.
Pattern Description: Loose-fitting, lined dresses in two lengths have wrap front with snap closures and side seam pockets. A: sleeveless. A, B: belt with thread loops. B, C: long sleeve with elastic casing at lower edges. C:contrast left front. No provisions for adjustments above waist. *description from McCalls website
Pattern Sewing Level: Sewing level is rated Easy for this pattern. If you can attach a lining and side seam pockets, you can nail this dress.
What size did you cut?: I cut the Large for the bust and waist and an X-Large for the hips.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes they were easy and straight forward! I didn’t have any issues with the instructions or illustrations.
What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I LOVE the sleeves on this dress! This was my first time working with this type of sleeve where the elastic casing in the lining and fabric. Because of that, you have a hand sew the sleeve lining around the armhole! I was really pleased with the way it came together.
Did you make any pattern alterations: I did not make any alterations to the pattern.
Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I purchased this Metallic Red Sequin Knit fabric from Fashion Fabrics Club. It’s still available if you’re interested. The black lining is a Tricot from my local Hobby Lobby!
Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No, sorry! I did not record a sew along for this.
Click here some pics from inside the garment of the hem of the sleeve, stitching of the sleeve lining, under-stitching around the hem of the dress, and pockets!!!
Would you sew it again? Yes! It’s an easy dress to sew and perfect for the holidays in some sequin or velvet!
Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely!
Well that is all for the first post of the year y’all! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! I uploaded a quick recap of the year with ALL of my makes from 2019 on my Youtube channel! Head on over and check that out and be sure to subscribe for more sewing videos!
