Hey everybody! Happy Monday! Today I am sharing a new dress inspired by a fellow sewist Isabella of @whatbellamade. I loved her dress so much not just because of the polka dots and shirring but its a very trendy and popular dress right now! I had to make one myself! Let’s get into the details!

the details

Pattern Used: I used McCalls 7946 for this pattern and I made View C. For the sleeves, I did the elastic casing from View B.

Pattern Description: Pullover dress has elasticized upper edge and waist with bias tape casings. B, C:Sleeves with elasticized shoulder and lower edges. C, D: Lower ruffle. D: Shoulder straps extending into ties. *description from McCalls website

Pattern Sewing Level: This is a Learn to Sew for Fun Level 2 pattern. So it’s great for a confident beginner.

What size did you cut?: I cut the size 18 for this pattern. The reason I cut the 18 is because I decided to do shirring for the bodice of this dress. When shirring you want the fabric to be at least 1.5 -2 times more that the required measurement. For example, my bust is a 40. 40 x 1.5 is 60. The size 18 finished garment measurement for the bust is 55”. I’m short 5” but it’s comfortable and I love the fit.

Were the instructions easy to follow? They were. I only followed the directions for the doing the bias tape along the sleeves, and neckline. Also for installing the sleeves and ruffle. For the shirring, I did my own thing.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I love the sleeves and ruffle on View C. I have no dislikes about the pattern.

Did you make any pattern alterations: Only alteration was adding the shirring instead of doing the elastic casings.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? My fabric is a Rayon Voile from Fabric.com. I love the this print and this fabric is really nice and lightweight.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? I did! I’m currently editing it, so be sure to subscribe to my Youtube Channel to know when it goes live!

Would you sew it again? Yes, I would. Next time though, I’ll lengthen it to make it a maxi.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes I would! It’s a great summer dress.

Well, that is all for today! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! Until next time….

Blessings
