Hey everybody! Happy Thursday! I hope you’re doing well and staying safe! I shared this look yesterday on Instagram and now I’m sharing more of the details about it! Both of these garments are Indie patterns. The top is the Gilbert by Helen’s Closet and the pants are the Pietra by Closet Core Patterns. I made a joke that I was putting the two closets together when making this look lol! Overall, I really love them both together and as separates so let’s get into the details!

the details

Pattern Used:  The top is Helen’s Closet Gilbert Top, and Closet Core Patterns Pietra Pants. I made View A from the top pattern and View B from the pants.

Pattern Description:

  • Gilbert Top: The Gilbert Top is a button up shirt with a camp-style collar and a relaxed fit. View A has short sleeves and a tie-front. It is slightly cropped but still very comfortable with mid to high-rise bottoms. View B has long bell sleeves and a longer length, perfect for tucking into high-waisted pants. *description from Helen’s Closet

  • Pietra Pants: Part of our Rome Collection, the Pietra Pants & Shorts are the best of both worlds; a flat front, high-waisted silhouette with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, you’ll never want to take them off. Choose between four leg styles: a wide leg in floor-skimming or cropped length (View A), a slim and tapered leg (View B), or gently flared shorts (View C). *description from Closet Core Patterns

Pattern Sewing Level:

  • Gilbert Top: Intermediate

  • Pietra Pants: Advanced Beginner

What size did you cut?: For the top, I cut the 16. For the pants, I cut the 22.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very! Both patterns had great detailed instructions, illustrations and tips along the way.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I have no dislikes for either. For the top, I do wish I would’ve done a bicep adjustments, because the 16 sleeve fit perfect! I don’t have much room in it, so I definitely should’ve adjusted it.

Did you make any pattern alterations: I did make adjustments to the pants. I originally cut the 22 and merged to the 20 for the waist. It turned out to be really big because I like my pants high waisted. I’ve added pics below to show you just how much I had to take out. By taking in that much more from the waist, I had to go back and add a side seam zipper, which I love that detail.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? My fabric was gifted from The Fabric Store Online. It’s a Chambray and you can check it out here.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? I did not record a sew along for these.

For pics of the adjustments and closer look at the inside of the pants, click here.

Would you sew it again? Yes I would sew both of them again!

Would you recommend it to others? Absolutely, they are both great patterns together and as separates!

Well, that is all for today! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! Until next time….

Blessings,
