linen duster pant set: simplicity 8985

Hey everybody! I hope you had a great weekend! Mines was…… exhausting! Well actually, my past week was! I feel like I’ve been running on coffee and……more coffee the last few days! Lol! My last couple of projects really took a toll on me! I had deadlines to meet but somehow I managed to sew, record and edit SIX videos within eight days! Needless to say, when I finished those projects, I closed my sewing room door for a couple days! Lol! Over the weekend, I rested as much as I could and now I’m feeling back to my normal self again! Thank God! So today, lets chat about this linen duster and pant set I made using Simplicity 8985.

Pattern Used: For this set, I used Mimi G Style Simplicity 8985.

Pattern Description: Wrap-front, mid-length duster coat or dress has lapel collar and elasticated waist, fastens with single button. Sleeves are push-up style. Floor-skimming pants are wide-legged with narrow waistband, side pockets and back zipper closure. * description from Simplicity website

Pattern Sewing Level: I think this pattern would be great for an intermediate sewist.

What size did you cut?: I cut the 16 for the duster and the 20W for the pants. Before making this, I knew I wanted it to be the duster, if i intended to wear it as the dress, I would’ve cut the 16 for the bust and then merged the lines over to a bigger size to fully cover my hips.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes. The instructions and the illustrations were well written and easy to follow.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I really like the pants on this pattern! I think they not only look great but fit great as well! I also like the elastic casing that’s only in the back of the duster.

Did you make any pattern alterations: I did not make any adjustments to either garment. I was concerned that the waist of the pants would be big, but it was a perfect fit. I did cut 10 inches off from the length of the duster/dress because I was short on fabric but I think the shorter length worked out great.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I used a Linen for the fabric and purchased it from my local Joann.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? YES, I did! I had the opportunity to step in for Mimi G and record the sew alongs for her latest Simplicity patterns, 8985 and 8994. The sew alongs for both are live on her YouTube channel now! Watch View A here and View B here!

Would you sew it again? The duster…maybe? The pants…YES! I love the wide leg of these pants, and how high waisted they are!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I think this is a really fabulous pattern and I think if you’re into fashion this could totally be made in a silky fabric to give it a lux pajama look that you could wear out! That would be soooo cute!

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and subscribe to my newsletter! I’ll be sending out August newsletter on the 31st and it’ll have an exclusive sew along included! Until next time…

Blessings
