I made a swimsuit: megan nielsen cottesloe curve pattern
Hey everybody! Sooo…just a heads up, this post is very much outside of my comfort zone! LOL! I honestly thought LONG and hard if I wanted to share it! I even talked it over with hubs because lets be real….ITS A SWIMSUIT! Y’all, I can’t believe I made my FIRST swimsuit, how easy it was, that I actually took pics in it and now I’m about to share it all with you! Whew….lets get into it!
Pattern Used: It’s been a lot of cute swimsuit patterns released recently but I LOVE the simplicity of Megan Nielsen new Cottesloe Swimsuit! I didn’t want anything complicated for my first suit, and whenever you can follow a video or blog posts, thats a plus and Megan provided step-by-step posts for her pattern.
Pattern Description: Classic one piece swimsuits and mix and match bikini sets. Pattern features athletic elements, four variations and includes detailed instructions to guide the sewer through swimsuit construction techniques. (description from megan nielsen cottesloe pattern)
Pattern Sewing Level: This pattern is rated 1/5 (which I’m assuming is great for beginners).
What size did you cut?: For sizing, I did my usual merging of pattern lines. My suit is a 16 at the bust, 18 at the waist and 20 for the hips. One thing I love is the new extended sizing they have added. I use the Curve PDF Pattern for this swimsuit.
Were the instructions easy to follow? YES! They were super easy to follow! I had no problems but I did reference the detailed blog posts just to get a better visual and make sure I was doing things right!
What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I LOVE how easy this pattern was to sew! I was intimated to make a swimsuit but this pattern was perfect! I also love the back coverage of this suit! I don’t have any dislikes and I’m looking forward to making another!
Did you make any pattern alterations: No adjustments other than the pattern line merging. I did add a lining to my swimsuit! (I had some black fabric in my stash my mom gave to me years ago that was perfect!) I also added bra cups to my suit. I used these from Joann. This was my first time inserting bra cups and they were really easy to do. I don’t know if I did them right but I zig zag stitched the cups around the edges of where I needed them on my lining fabric. Trimmed away the fabric over the cups, and that was that!
Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I purchased this Multi Texture Stripe Print Activewear Knit fabric from Fashion Fabrics Club. I fell in love with this print and quickly bought 1.5 yards of it!
Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No! I don’t record videos for patterns designed by indie pattern makers. Out of respect for them, their time, and business, I’d rather refer you to the blog posts or video they create for their own pattern! Here’s the blog post again for this swimsuit! Its great and filled with a ton of info!
Would you sew it again? YES! I have fabric on the way for another swimsuit now! I’m thinking to do a little color-blocking on the one!
Would you recommend it to others? YES!! This is a great swimsuit pattern! Classic style and super cute!
Thank you all so much for stopping by the blog! I hope you enjoyed the post and seeing this suit on my 16,18,20 figure! If you leave a comment, please be kind with your words! I’m super confident and happy with ME, but I’m sharing a lot of things that have caused me to be self conscious, like my back acne scars and cellulite! Love you all!
Until next time…
Blessings
