Floral Jersey Wrap Dress: Vogue 9350

Hey everybody! Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a great start! I did a little shopping over the weekend for new Simplicity patterns and also some new accessories! Thats right! I’m on a mission to do more styling to my makes! I purchased a couple pairs of sunglasses, one necklace and shoes from Target and Payless. If you want to see the haul, you can check it out here. Now let’s chat about this wrap dress.

This was my first project of 2019! I made it in January when we we’re living in our apartment waiting to move into our house! I am a wrap dress kind of girl, so I will always buy wrap dress patterns! I just can’t help myself! I love them! I used Vogue 9350 for this dress. I love the fabric they used for the pattern envelope so I think thats what caught my attention first. Then, I saw the sleeves and I was sold!

I used this Rayon Spandex for the fabric. I found it at my local Joann, as well as the Black Tricot lining I used to line the bodice with. I was a little nervous about this fabric, because I’m a mid-weight knit lover! I reach for Double knits, Liverpools, and Ponte first before lightweight knits. But I saw this print and had to have it! Surprising it sewed up beautifully! I tested a couple scraps to get my setting right and I had no problems making the dress. I may be reaching for this lightweight knit more especially for the warmer months!

The sleeves are my favorite part of this dress. I also love that it was an elastic casing in the back waist seam allowance only. I think that adds a nice touch and also snatches in the waist without having to tie the ties so tight. For my lining, I did mine differently from the pattern instructions. Instead of slipstitching the lining over the waist and sleeve seam, I sergered mine altogether! If you’re wondering why……. I just didn’t want to slipstitch anything with the word SPANDEX in it y’all! LOL! I was lazy, I admit it but I’m okay with my dress! The insides are still nice and finished.

To close the inside wrap of the dress, the pattern has you to make a small loop with fabric, and sew in a button. I didn’t feel all that confident in a loop and button, so I sewed in a snap and I like the security of that much better.

I paired it with my favorite velvet platforms and called it a day! I can definitely see myself revisiting this pattern again!
