faux leather shorts & ogden cami
Hey friends! Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great weekend! Today I’m so excited to share these red faux leather shorts I finished up last week. I don’t know what prompt me to make shorts yet alone faux leather shorts, but I’m so glad I did! It’s fun to make something outside of your norm every now and then. I made these shorts using McCalls 8118 and they were really quick and easy to whip up! Let’s get into the details.
the details
I used McCalls 8118 and made View B from the pattern. I also added the belt loops from View C because with faux leather, without the loops the tie didn’t stay put.
For fabric, I used this Red Perfecto Leather from Melanated Fabrics. This fabric was a dream to sew with and I didn’t even have to use my Teflon foot. You can shop the other color way of this fabric here.
size + adjustments
For size, I cut the L and I didn’t make any adjustments to these shorts. Below are some close up pics of the shorts.
tips
Before I mentioned I didn’t use my Teflon foot to sew these shorts. I did however use A LOT of double sided sticky tape! I used it to hold my hem in place before sewing it together, to hold the tie, belt loops, and waistband! It worked like a dream and helped eliminate the wavy look that can sometimes happen when sewing faux leather.
machine
I made these on my Husqvarna Viking Epic 95Q. That machine has a dual feed feature on it so I kept that engaged on the back of my machine. It acts like a walking foot so that was helpful for keeping the layers together while sewing them. Below is a close up of it.
the look
I paired my faux leather shorts with a True Bias Ogden Cami that I made with some remnants of Melanated Fabrics Moda Crepe Print. The fabric sold out so fast LOL! When I noticed we had about 3/4 yard left, I snagged it for a cami! I love it with this shorts, and will definitely wear this A LOT for summer!
Well, that is all for today! Thank you so much for stopping by! Until next time…
Blessings,
