black oversized jacket: mccalls 7876
Hey everybody! Happy Friday! I hope you have a great week! I am excited for this weekend to catch up on a couple things. For sewing, I’m going to finish the trench coat I’m working on and then I plan to start working with some amazing Luxe Cuddle fabric from Shannon Fabrics. So excited to get started on making a robe and vest!!
Today I’m sharing this Black Oversized McCalls jacket that I’ve had done for about 3 weeks now! I was holding off on sharing because I wanted to sew the pants on that pattern as well, but I have yet to start on those. I figured I’ll just go ahead, share the jacket and style it with some jeans. Which is how I’ll most likely wear it anyway! Let’s get into the details!!!
Pattern Used: I used McCalls 7876 for this jacket and made View B.
Pattern Description: A, B Jackets are loose-fitting and lined, with length variations. B Jacket has side seam pockets. C, D Pants are loose-fitting with fly front, slash pockets, asymmetrical front pleats, and straight legs. *description from McCalls website.
Pattern Sewing Level: The sewing level for this pattern is Easy. Ummmmm, it was easy to sew, but if you’re a true beginner and you’re interested in this pattern, know that the jacket is lined, and it also has buttonholes. If you’re confident with those things, then go for it!
What size did you cut?: I cut the 16 for the bust, 18 for the waist, and 20 for the hips. I wanted my jacket to be able to button close around my hips, so I merged the lines.
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were! I didn’t have any issues with the instructions or the illustrations.
What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I liked the length options with the jacket. I originally was going to to View A but noticed B had pockets so went that view. I also like that it’s oversized and gives a nice relaxed but put together look.
Did you make any pattern alterations: I made no alterations to the pattern.
Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I used this Black Crepe fabric from Fashion Fabrics Club. This fabric was really nice to work with. I have more to make matching pants.
Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No I did not record a sew along for this jacket.
Would you sew it again? Yes I would sew this again.
Would you recommend it to others? Yes especially if you love oversized, unstructured garments.
Well, that is all for todays post! Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend! Until next time…..
Blessings
