Striped Top & Linen Pants: Simplicity 8601 & McCalls 7626
Hey everybody! Hope all is well! I feel like I've said this before but tops are something that my closet lacks a lot of. I found myself this summer trying to whip up a couple easy to sew ones, and I'm happy to report, I did! I made a couple tie front tops, a few crop tops, a wrap top, and an unexpected wearable muslin tie strap top! During all that top sewing, one pattern was on repeat and I made 2 of them....today makes number 3! LOL
Simplicity 8601 is a great spring/summer top. I've made view A and C before and recorded a video for it! For this top here, I wanted to revisit View A mainly because I had similar fabric as the model and I felt it was meant to be! LOL!
For size, I cut the size 16 and made no adjustments to the patterns. Its a really quick and easy so sew! I definitely recommend it to beginners. For the back closure, I did a thread chain loop and added a button I had in my stash from LaFinch Fabrics. The real star here is the fabric. I used a Stretch Stripe Shirting fabric from Measure Fabric, and it was fantastic to sew it! It's nice lightweight and breathable making it great for the summer.
To say that I obsessed over the stripe matching would be an understatement! LOL! I use just about every pin I had to make sure they lined up! I was able to get them to line up in the front, back, side, and shoulders. Sleeves not so much but hey, you win some, you lose some!
For the pants, I used McCalls 7626 View D. I originally wanted to hack a jumpsuit using the pants from this pattern and another bodice, but that idea tanked real fast! I couldn't just trash it, because hello, I cut 100% linen from The Fabric Store, I was going to make SOMETHING with it!
*insert* some SUPER high waisted pants that I LOVE!!! I cut the largest size for the hip and 18 for the waist. I had to do a lot of "fit as you sew" with these, because I had a lot of excess fabric in the front creating a "pooch". I also added two darts to the back to get a better fit and create a waistband!
Overall, I love this look! Happy I was able to salvage the linen and create some pants. I'll probably put my top pattern away for a while now, because I think 3 is enough!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Until next time...
Blessings
