Hey friends! Happy Wednesday! I hope you all are having a great week so far! Today, I am sharing my newest dress that I made a couple weeks ago actually and that’s the new Mimi G X Simplicity 9261 pattern! Listen, when I say that this dress it everything! IT IS! I felt amazing in this dress! It’s like a whole mood boost! I love it! Its so good, and I definitely recommend it! But before we get to that, let’s get into the details!

the details

I made this dress using Simplicity 9261 and went with View A which is the shorter length on the pattern. I plan to make the longer version also because I love both lengths and like I said… this dress is everything! Lol!

For fabric, I used this Ponte Knit from Melanated Fabrics. The pattern suggest a jersey, cotton interlock, and ITY knits, but I liked a Ponte for mine. It was great to work with and it’s not a beefy Ponte but it does have the stability, and recover stretch that I like. You can shop the two other colors here and here.

size + adjustments

For size, I cut the 18 for the bodice and the 22 for the hip. I would definitely recommend sizing down or at least sewing a muslin first. I could’ve cut the 16 bodice and the 20 for the hip and it would’ve been perfect. My bodice it a little big, not noticeably, but I know a 16 would’ve fit perfect. And I did take in some along the waist and hip so yeah, consider sizing down.

The dress does call for a lining for the bodice so keep that in mind and remember to grab some when shopping for supplies. I used a tricot lining for mine.

I did not make any adjustments to the pattern other than playing around with the size. Because I know the deep v is not for everyone, if you want to close it up, you can sew up a little more pass the stopping small circles on the pattern, but be mindful of the dress design and the fact that it does not have any closures. This dress just pulls over the head, which…I LOVE! So definitely stitch up a quick muslin to test that out if you sew up pass the circles for more coverage.

video

There is a sew along live now on Mimi G Youtube channel for this dress! I had the opportunity to step in and record it and I highly recommend watching it. The bodice calls for some hand stitching but in the video, I show you how to attach the lining without slipstitching it. Watch the video below!

This dress is a winner! Like I said in the beginning, I definitely recommend it and plan to make another myself!
