palm print dress: mccalls 7970 view b

Hey everybody! Happy Friday! It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, but I’m back today to share all about this palm print dress I made using McCalls 7970! I’ve had this fabric in my stash for months now, and I was sooo happy to finally cut into it! Before I get into the details, let’s chat about how this fabric finally made it to my cutting table!

In my last IGTV, I shared a new pattern haul of the recent McCalls pattern, and Raven of @ravenmaureen_ commented that she had several of the same patterns that I had! From there, we DM back and forth and within 30 minutes had decided on a pattern and fabric (yes, we had the same fabric in our stash), set a date and just that quick a collaboration with on the books! Now lets, get into the details!

Pattern Used: McCalls 7970. I made View B on this pattern.

Pattern Description: Loose fitting, pullover dress, in two lengths, has elasticized waist. A: Bodice and skirt flounces. C, D: Multi-tiered skirt, with or without contrast, has side front slit and belt. *description from McCalls website

Pattern Sewing Level: Sewing level is Easy. If you came attach facing, and create an elastic casing, you can make this dress.

What size did you cut?: I cut the size 16 at the bust, 18 at the waist and 22 for the hips.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, they were very easy to follow. I didn’t have any problems at all, and the instructions/illustrations are great too.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I love the sleeves on this dress. The one thing I did not like or find necessary was the front of the skirt. I honestly thought it was a wrap dress from the pattern line drawings lol. However the front of the skirt is just cut into two pieces. I guess if you’re using a contrasting fabric the two pieces would be great, but I wasn’t and I wish I would’ve paid closer attention to that because i would’ve made it one piece.

Did you make any pattern alterations: Other than merging the pattern size, I added 5 inches to the hem.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I ordered this fabric from Fabric. com. (sold out) Its a Telio brand fabric. They are one of my favorite fabric brands. I literally only shop Fabric.com for them.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? No, I did not record a video for this dress.

Would you sew it again? Maybe. It’s a great dress, and I love the fit, however if I do revisit it, it won’t be immediately. I have a lot of patterns I’m super excited to make!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I would recommend this dress!

Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today! Be sure to check out Raven dress that she made using the same fabric and pattern and show her some love! Until next time…

Blessings
