Mommy and Me Outfit for Mother's Day: Look 1: Fashion Fabrics Club
Hey everybody! Happy Friday! I hope you all had a fabulous week! With Mother’s Day approaching this weekend, I thought it was fitting to create a mommy and me look! I love creating garments for myself, but when I can twin with my mini, that’s the best ever! I know the day will come when she probably will not want to match with her mom, so I’ll taking full advantage now!
Before I get into the patterns, can we talk about this fabric! (* insert swoon)! While I was browsing Fashion Fabrics Club site, I came across this Ecru Multi Floral Burst Challis (I’m sorry y’all, its sold out. Other options are below) and immediately fell in love! The photo really doesn’t do the fabric justice but I’m glad I took a chance on it. As you can see the colors are vibrant, and the print is just amazing! The fabric is 100% Rayon. (One of my favorites!) It’s lightweight making it great from spring/summer garments, and the drape is fantastic!
I originally planned to make a matching mommy and me dress using this Butterick 6654 pattern. Once I received the fabric though and got a good look at the flowers on the fabric, I realized I didn’t want to disrupt the print too much. I felt like darts, waistlines, and sleeves would’ve taking away from the fabric and I didn’t want that! I wanted the fabric to shine and be the focus. Making a maxi came to mind, so I searched through my patterns and came across Simplicity 8381!
This was my first time using this pattern, and I was excited because I liked that it was a simple silhouette! Plus I happen to love a good off-the-shoulder moment so I was here for it! For size, I cut the Medium. One thing I noticed is that this pattern runs really big. I actually thought about cutting the Small but went with the M. I didn’t make any adjustments to it other than adding a sash. I felt that adding a little definition for the waist was a MUST for me because I felt “swallowed up” in the dress without it!
Here are some other Rayon options that I think will be great for a simple silhouette…
For Justice dress, I had the same idea in mind for a simple silhouette so I used See & Sew 5442 View B for her dress. I cut the size 3 and added 5 inches to the hem. I can’t believe how tall she’s getting!
I really love the way our dresses came together! The fabric makes me so happy and just screams Spring! I’m calling this our “dress up” look for Mothers Day! Be sure to check out this post here to see the top I created for a little relax and play on Mother’s Day!
Thank you so much for stopping by and special thanks to Fashion Fabrics club for gifting me this amazing fabric!! Until next time…
Blessings
