mint knit dress: simplicity 9778

Hey friends! Happy Wednesday! Today I am sharing another knit dress that I finished up last week. I have been on a knit kick lately and I’m enjoying it. I gravitate more to woven fabrics like Rayons and Linens but my last few projects have been with our Perla Knit from Melanated Fabrics. When I first saw Simplicity 9778, I knew I was going to make it. I don’t wear my midriff out a lot but I will show a little skin on a date night with Jerome and I thought this dress would be great for a nice summer night out. Let’s get into the details…

the details

Pattern Used: I used Simplicity S9778 for this dress.

Pattern Description: Easy-to-sew slim fit knit dress in two lengths has twist front and cut-out detail, sleeveless or cap sleeves, and elasticized waist. Long dress has a side slit. *Description from Simplicity website

Pattern Sewing Level: Easy

What size did you cut?: I cut the size 26 in this pattern.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were easy to follow. I didn’t have any issues with the instructions or the illustrations.

What did you like or dislike about the pattern? I LOVE a twist front. I’m a big fan of that details on garments so I love that. I also like that you can show little or more midriff depending on your comfort. I don’t have any dislikes about this pattern.

Did you make any pattern alterations: I did not make any adjustments for this dress. I have heard from other makers that they recommend sizing up. So if you tend to sew knits following your exact measurements or even going down because it is a knit, for this pattern maybe stitch up a quick muslin or go up a size. I tend to always sew a size up in fitted knit dresses because I don’t want them clinging to my body. I did the same thing in the pink dress I shared last week. I’d rather have it big and need to take it in, than it be a perfect fit and clinging to me.

Where did you purchase the fabric(s)? I used this Perla Knit fabric from Melanated Fabrics.

Did you record a sew along for this pattern? I did not but Mimi did. This is her pattern and she has a sew along on Youtube Channel.

Would you sew it again? Maybe. I can see myself making another next year, but one is enough for me this summer.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes. I think this is a great spring/summer dress. Trendy and can be worn with sandals, heels, or with sneaker and a jacket.

Well that is all for today friends. Thank you all so much for stopping by the my blog! Until next time…

Blessings,
