Chambray Tier Maxi Dress
Hey everybody! Happy Friday! I am so excited to share this look with you! It's one of my absolute favorites that I've made recently! It so perfect for summer, comfy, and its also pretty trendy too! Y'all, I'm in love and really proud of myself! So lets chat about how this look came about!
I was totally inspired by my fellow maker, Tabitha Sewer! She is so talented and so amazing at recreating looks that she sees on her favorite fashion influencers and Pinterest! She's also a beast at thrifting! Tabitha made this dress in a beautiful fabric designed by Jennifer Paganelli and I was so inspired!
Looking through my fabric stash, I came across this chambray that I found at.....WALMART!!! (I love finding gems in there!) Here's a fabric option here. Lucky for me, I had already pre-washed it, so I was ready to start cutting immediately! For my dress, I used 3 patterns (I was being lazy, the 3rd is totally optional). For the bodice, I used McCalls 7626. I cut the size 16 and made no adjustments to it!
For the ties, I used McCalls 7778 View A. Like I said, totally not necessary, I can simply lengthen the ties on the bodice pattern, but hey....I had time and didn't mind! You may be wondering why not just use that bodice from McCalls 7778. I didn't use that bodice because the back sits down a little lower that McCalls 7626 and I like that back coverage a little more!
For the skirt, I used McCalls 7604 View C and cut the size L. Because the skirt sit different at the waist, between the two patterns, I added an inch to the first and second tier and 4 inches to the third tier. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of length, and I'm so happy with it. Its perfect for wedges, and flat, without showing my ankles!
I added about a one inch piece of interfacing to the top edge of the bodice just to give it little stability. And the lining in slipstitched over the waist seam for a neat inside finish.
Also for the skirt, because the tiers are all cut on the fold, I cut a center back seam in the first tier so I can insert the zipper through the bodice to the skirt. The other tiers were cut on the folds. The skirt has a ton of gathers as you can see, so if you decided to make one, be patient! Lets just say I popped my gathering thread a couple times and don't want you to do the same!! LOL! I had some questions about my zipper, so I'll do a video soon to show you all how I like to install them.
Since making this dress, I'm already planning to make another in a black and white or navy and white gingham! I've also gone down a Pinterest rabbit hole and found some other cute looks that I can't wait to make and do tutorials for.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend! Until next time....
Blessings
