Triple Stripe Twill Dress: Vogue 9122
Hey everybody! Happy Tuesday! Todays post I’m sharing about this cute Out Of Print Vogue pattern that I came across in my pattern stash a couple weeks ago! It’s not often that I sew with OOP patterns, but I do have a few in my stash that I’ve bought during the OOP sales McCalls have online.
This dress started with the fabric. I recently got this Tripe Stripe Sateen Twill from Measure Fabric and had no idea what I wanted to make with it! I originally was leaning towards making a nice pair of pants, but that changed when I saw Vogue 9122. I thought the stripe play on the model was a sign lol so I went with it!
So glad I did, because I love this dress! Now I admit, after I made it, I was having big time second thoughts about it! It gave me major cheerleader dress/Clueless movie vibes, but after styling it, I love it! I cut the 14 around the bust, merged over to the 16-18 for the waist and 20 for the hips.
As you can see, I really wanted to take my time and align the front for a nice center diagonal. Really happy with the way it turned out! The stripe on this fabric runs horizontal, so I cut the bottom portion pieces of the dress on the cross-grain so the stripes would run vertical on the dress.
This dress is also full-lined or at least thats what the pattern recommended. I gotta be honest, I’m not much of a lining girl, if I don’t see it ABSOLUTELY necessary! I will go with a facing or bias tape finish depending on the garment! For this dress, I didn’t see it necessary especially with all the topstitching, so I did a bias tape finish around the neck and armholes. I also did a lapped zipper in the back.
For styling, I knew I wanted something to go underneath the dress but couldn’t decide what. I thought about a turtleneck but then came across my Vogue 8772 white button up in my closet and thought it’d be perfect! This look and Thursdays look (come back for that ;) really opened my eyes to how easy we can transition summer/sleeveless looks to Fall with a simple white shirt! So happy I added this staple shirt to my wardrobe last month! Now I need to make a couple more!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Until next time,
Blessings
